During winter, people find that their electric bills rocketing sky-high. People struggle to keep warm in addition to finding ways to pay the outrageous electric bill. Here are some tips to help save on your electric bill during the winter.
Prevent Drafts
When winter sets in, you need to take the time to properly prevent drafts from entering your home. If your windows cause drafts then visit your local hardware store to buy some plastic to cover your windows. Once you have plastic over your windows, get some heavy, long curtains to help keep drafts out more than with just plastic alone. Feel cold air coming from your doors? Replace the door if you can afford it. If not, place a blanket in front of the door.
Turn The Temperature Down
Even if it’s ten below zero outside you don’t want to turn the temperature up, otherwise you will be paying dearly for it. You could always wear a Snuggie or add layers of clothes to help keep you warm in the winter without have to turn the heat up this winter. Always leave your thermostat at 67 degrees or else you will be paying over $140 for heat each month in the winter. At night you can add a few more blankets if you find that you get cold at night easily.
Check Your Water Heater
When winter hits , go check your water heater. If you find that your water heater is set above 110 degrees, turn it down and be sure to check to see if you water heater is up to date. Older water heaters tend to cost more bill wise as it takes more electricity to heat up the water.
Turn Off The Lights
When you leave home for any reason, you should always turn off any and all unnecessary lights. You have no idea how many people forget this small task. You can imagine why they complain about their electric bill being so high. Install light timers to help turn on any needed lights before you get home if it’s dark.
