Instead of spending the time rushing around this holiday season, focus on spending quality time together as a family. During this season of busyness, it is SO important to take time and enjoy each other as a family.
The older your kids get, the more you realize how important family time is together. In a world that is telling you to buy your kids more, the truth is that they’re craving more of YOU and less of what the stores have to offer. I wanted to talk about how to spend quality time together around Christmas. In a busy season, it’s important to take time and enjoy each other as a family!
Play board games together once a week
As the crazy busy Christmas season starts, it’s important to carve out time together. One of our favorite activities to do as a family is to play board games together. Every week, we carve out time to play board games together. We love it because it doesn’t require any “screen” and we can just enjoy our family time together. Some of our favorite board games include –
- Uno
- Monopoly
- Pie in the Face
Spend time writing notes to each other
As families, we’ve all gotten away of spending quality time together. This is where writing notes together come in. Put everyone’s name in a hat and then everyone draws a name. Then, the whole family spends time working on the note to their person. This has to be an uplifting note and it needs to be something the other person will want to read. If a person in the family can’t read or write, they can tag along with another person and help them write their letter.
Have a bonfire and roast marshmallows
We live in a time period where everything is going go go and so complicated. One tried and true way to spend time together, as a family, is with a bonfire. If you don’t live in a place where you can have a bonfire, then just spend time outdoors together. Take a hike and enjoy the Christmas decorations.
Do family crafts together
Do you know how many crafts exist these days? You can easily do family crafts together. Whether you make popcorn strings or take the time to build DIY snowmen, you can always do something at your kitchen table.
- Make Homemade Ornaments (an example using ornaments)
- Decorate t-shirts together
- Spend some time learning Christmas songs
There is so much you can do as a family, it’s just important to take away all of the distractions that can potentially happen. Turn off the television or put away the phone, so you can focus on your family.
While the Christmas season shouldn’t be the only reason you spend time together as a family, it is a good reason to do so! Let this time together help bond you closer as a family.
