My son was struggling in third grade with reading certain words. Before then, he always did okay with reading, spelling, and language arts. Now, he seemed to have a short attention span, and he needed extra instructions to understand.
He struggled to pronounce certain words when reading out loud, and he sometimes struggled to use context clues to know what words meant.
He could read, but there seemed to be a gap in his ability to process what he was reading. The curriculum was moving too fast, and he couldn’t keep up. This gap in a fundamental skill was making him frustrated.
This is just the kind of thing that Skill Trek can help with. We know how busy your lives are and we also understand how skill gaps can happen in student learning and life skill learning. There are a variety of reasons why these gaps happen.
Skill Trek’s Legacy Skills Help Find Skill Gaps
Sometimes skill gaps happen in language, in processing abilities, in mathematics, or in any area of study. Academic gaps can be cognitive or noncognitive. They can happen at a young age, or they can happen when your child is older. Parents can point out a variety of reasons or causes, and it’s important that when these gaps are discovered, we spot them and work to help our children to have a strong foundation.
The stakes are high with your child and the sooner you spot the gaps and work to fill them, the better things will be for your child. You need to identify the gap, then you need to take the steps to add the skill or skills your child is missing.
