Have you ever wondered if you’re taking the time you need to instill good character in your kids? Has there been a moment when you felt like your child SHOULD know right from wrong… but, they act like they don’t? Instilling good character qualities in our kids is so important, and Skill Trek can help make that happen!
It was a moment I never thought would happen. The phone rang and I saw the number was my child’s school. I quickly picked up, hoping there hadn’t been an accident, and the principal greeted me on the other end of the line.
“There’s been an issue with your child.”
“What?” You asked, all of the worst-case scenario situations coming to mind.
“He was caught cheating on a test/ lying to the teacher/bullying another child.”
It’s never a call you want to hear. The school is calling to complain about your child’s behavior at school. You’re probably feeling a lot of emotions at once – you’re angry, you’re embarrassed, you’re disappointed.
You taught your child better than this!
Wait, did you?
It’s moments like this in life that remind us that teaching another human being everything they need to know about life is a very tough job.
How do we know which qualities we should be teaching our children? It sounds simple enough, but how often do these things get taken for granted?
There are so many important character skills we need to teach our children and they don’t come written in a manual. Honesty, integrity, grit, determination, optimism, zest for life, self-control, curiosity, and social intelligence… these are just a few.
You want your children to have strong solid character traits, but it’s not always easy to know how to teach this.
As parents, we want our children to know what to do when faced with a challenging moral decision. We want our children to do the right thing even if no one is looking. Of course, we want to raise children who want to help others, without being promoted to do so.
That’s why Skill Trek is here to help. We understand that with the many things you have to teach your children, it’s normal for some skills to get missed. Busy families have busy parents and we know that students may not have the time they need to focus on the life skills necessary to succeed.
That’s why we created Skill Trek!
Skill Trek is a family-centered curriculum that is designed to help parents teach and children learn practical knowledge for life. These are not tasks that need to take extra time in your already-busy life. They are things your children will learn as you are going through your normal daily routine. They are skills that can be taught and practiced while having dinner, doing chores, or going to school. Our program will accent your life, not take away from it.
Skills are designed for every age level, from preschoolers to high schoolers, and will learn important qualities that help them build strong character in their school career, and when they go off to college and an adult profession.
The curriculum is all online so there are no more books to add to your home or special tools you need to buy. Skill Trek will assure you that your children are well-equipped and ready for adulthood.
Don’t forget what is important!
Character is malleable. It is something you can learn when you’re young and then continue to grow and develop as you get older. Children need to be taught to accept and even embrace failure. The need to be taught important character traits and given the opportunity to practice them so that they can grow these skills. Skill Trek can help.
